Controlling the Manual Focus Assist preview

Posted on July 22, 2010 by jamie in how-to, informative

When you switch to Manual Focus mode, the NEX will give you a 7x or 14x live closeup to aid with focusing. This is obviously useful and when in this preview mode you can use the 4-way directional pad to move the preview around the scene (for example, if you wish to focus on an [...]

7 Stunning Straps for your Sony NEX

Posted on July 12, 2010 by jamie in informative, reviews

I’m not too fond of neck straps and the one which comes with the NEX doesn’t fill me with much joy. In general, I find the problems are: that it places all the weight around your neck (admittedly, not a problem with the NEX) they tend to get in the way particularly if you bend [...]

10 Terrific Tripods for your NEX

Posted on July 8, 2010 by jamie in informative, reviews

The NEX cameras have a great ISO range, a handheld twilight mode, a fast prime lens and an optically-stabilised zoom but that doesn’t mean that you’ll never need the humble tripod. What you don’t need is a 3′ monster of a tripod like you need for your SLR. The NEX cameras are small, lightweight and quick [...]

10 Recommended Bags for your Sony NEX

Posted on July 6, 2010 by jamie in informative, reviews

The first thing anyone buys for their camera is something to carry it around in and keep it safe. The headline feature is obviously the 3D Sweep Panorama functionality [...]

The Cokin filter system seems to work fine on the Nex cameras. I used the 49mm adapter ring on my 18-55mm lens (I think the 16mm lens uses the same filter diameter). You do need to remove the lens hood first though, even if it is reversed. It’s great to be able to use my [...]

International HDR day… with your Sony NEX

Posted on June 25, 2010 by jamie in how-to, informative

Tomorrow, Saturday 26th June, is International HDR Day! As I’ve said before, I’m not a huge fan of the overcooked HDR style which either removes all shadows from the image or makes the sky so unnaturally dark that the ground appears to be the light source! However, I’m getting ahead of myself. HDR what now? [...]
